The Rhinelander High School class of 1980 held their 30 year reunion in the summer of 2010. A group of classmates decided to play a round of golf as an impromptu lead-in to the actual reunion. The casual mention of a few classmates playing golf turned into 20+ golfers in just a few days. The event was so well received that some decided that an annual golf outing with great friends might serve as a vehicle to give back to the school they graduated from. This is how Friends of the RHS Class of 1980 Scholarship Scramble began. In 2011, thirteen teams raised enough to award two $500.00 scholarships. The 2012 outing had seventeen teams raise enough to award three $1000.00 scholarships. The 2013 outing was a huge success with 24 teams raising enough to again give three $1000.00 scholarships. With the money raised from our 2014 31 team outing we gave five scholarships for a total of $4000.00. The 2015 outing raised enough to give $5000 in scholarships to the 2016 graduates. Even though the event was rained out in 2016 we raised enough funds to give $6000 in scholarships for our 2017 graduating class. That makes a total of $22,000.00 awarded to Rhinelander High School graduates in six years.

With this event gaining more and more support, we feel the need to limit the number of teams to 30. This will help to make sure everything keeps running smoothly.

Our golf outing was a huge success on Aug. 19th 2017. We had perfect weather for our 30 team event!

The RHS class of 1980 would like to thank Hodag Pump & Pantry for the par 3 and putting contest prizes, Rhinelander GM for the hole in one car, and everyone that played, donated, or sponsored a hole. Without this great community support we couldn’t make this happen.

We would like to send a special thank you to the volunteers for coming out and spending the afternoon with us. Brenda and Al for raffle setup and sales along with Kurt, our raffle prize runner. Our hole in one spotters were Mitch and Renee. Al and Scott ran the putting contest, and Amy was out on the par 3 third hole.

Chip, Jayne, and the Pinewood Country Club staff did an excellent job again this year. They are a big help with keeping everything organized! Thank you!

With the help and support of everyone involved, we have been able to give $22,000 in scholarships to 25 graduates since 2012.
