The Rhinelander High School class of 1980 held their 30 year reunion in the summer of 2010. A group of classmates decided to play a round of golf as an impromptu lead-in to the actual reunion. The casual mention of a few classmates playing golf turned into 20+ golfers in just a few days. The event was so well received that some decided that an annual golf outing with great friends might serve as a vehicle to give back to the school they graduated from. This is how Friends of the RHS Class of 1980 Scholarship Scramble began. In 2011, thirteen teams raised enough to award two $500.00 scholarships. The 2012 outing had seventeen teams raise enough to award three $1000.00 scholarships. The 2013 outing was a huge success with 24 teams raising enough to again give three $1000.00 scholarships. With the money raised from our 2014 31 team outing we gave five scholarships for a total of $4000.00. The 2015 outing raised enough to give $5000 in scholarships to the 2016 graduates. Even though the event was rained out in 2016 we raised enough funds to give $6000 in scholarships for our 2017 graduating class. 2017 was another 30 team event that enabled us to give $6500 in scholarships to eight graduates. That makes a total of $28,500.00 awarded to Rhinelander High School graduates in seven years.
With this event gaining more and more support, we feel the need to limit the number of teams to 30. This will help to make sure everything keeps running smoothly.

Our golf outing was a huge success on Aug. 18th 2018. We had great weather for our 32 team event!
The RHS class of 1980 would like to thank Rhinelander GM for the hole in one car, and everyone that played, donated, or sponsored a hole. Without this great community support we couldn’t make this happen.
We would like to send a special thank you to the volunteers for coming out and spending the afternoon with us. Thanks Brenda, Al, Karen, Jackie, Amy and Jim for raffle setup and sales along with Molly, Jacob, and Scott our raffle prize runners. Jackie was also our hole in one spotter on #7, and our photographer. Amy was running the hole #3 contest, while Al and Karen took care of the putting contest. Great job everyone!
Chip, Jayne, and the Pinewood Country Club staff did an excellent job again this year. They are a big help with keeping everything organized! Thank you!
With the help and support of everyone involved, we have been able to give $28,500 in scholarships to 33 graduates since 2012.
